4 Ways to Improve Your Body’s Health

4 Ways to Improve Your Body's Health

Learn how to take care of your body with these four simple and effective tips from our wellness professionals.

Taking care of your body is something you have to do each and every day of your life, but that doesn’t mean it has to be complicated.

You most likely hear all of the things you “should” be doing when it comes to your health. You know that eating whole foods is helpful, but you don’t find yourself choosing them. You know you need rest, but some days the mind-numbing scroll of social media feels like all you can do.

Not only are we going to tell you the 4 healthiest things you can do for your body, but we are going to give you options on HOW you can accomplish them or even just get started with them. So here we go…

1. Move your body

Regular exercise can help you control your weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases, improve your mood, and boost your energy levels.

  • Go for a 20 minute walk or run outside.
  • Try a new workout class or activity, recruit a friend to make it social
  • Do bodyweight exercises at home, such as squats, lunges, and push-ups for 15 minutes.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Join a sports league or club and get moving while having fun.

2. Fuel your body

Eating a balanced and nutritious diet can help you maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases, improve your mood, and increase your energy levels.

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables – find ones that are in season or you enjoy the most. Get creative with how you incorporate them into your diet
  • Choose whole grains instead of refined grains for one meal
  • Start limiting your intake of processed and packaged foods by finding alternatives you enjoy. (swap the crackers for an apple with your peanut butter or cheese)
  • Incorporate lean proteins, such as chicken, fish, and beans.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

3. Get enough sleep

Sleep allows your body to rest and repair, and it’s essential for your brain to function correctly. Getting enough sleep can help you maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases, improve your mood, and boost your energy levels.

  • Start working towards a consistent sleep schedule. Your weekdays and weekends should be fairly consistent 😉
  • Create a relaxing bedtime routine, such as reading a book or taking a bath.
  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and large meals before bedtime.
  • Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet.
  • Work on limiting electronics an hour before bedtime. Sometimes this change alone gets us to bed earlier!
  • Start going to bed a 15 minutes earlier each week with the goal to add an hour of extra sleep in a month.

 4. Manage your stress

Chronic stress can lead to a range of health problems, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and depression. Plus unmanaged stress makes it that much harder to tackle the other stuff like exercise & sleep.

  • Practice mindfulness meditation or deep breathing exercises. This can be as simple as dedicated time to just sit and think of three things you are grateful for while focusing on taking deep breaths.
  • Take a break from technology and spend time in nature. Go sit in the grass and look up at the sky 😉
  • Connect with friends and family for emotional support.
  • Engage in relaxing activities, such as yoga or an easy walk.
  • Seek professional help if you’re struggling to manage your stress on your own.

Pick ONE option from each category that you can implement TODAY. Pick the one you could actually do today, not the one you think you should do 😉
